Fri-Sun, February 27-March 1, 2026 — Villefranche to Nice, France
After class on Friday, one of my classmates, Kei, did us a huge favor by driving us to Nice. That way, we avoided having to lug the bike boxes and packing material down to the train station and over to Nice.

Wow, I have to say the new apartment here at 8 Rue de France is absolutely amazing (and I thought we were doing pretty well with our apartment at the school! ) We are definitely being spoiled. I told Meg, it’s going to be really hard going back home after staying here for a month.

Although we did get the bike boxes and our two bags moved over on Friday, we couldn’t fit the bikes in Kai’s car, so we left them locked up on the terrace in Villefranche. This morning, we took the bus back to the Insitute and then headed out for a ride up into the hills. I was anxious to show Meg the town I had visited the weekend before. Although it was pretty much up for 15 miles, it was a beautiful ride with views of the sea and small towns in the hills. Lucky for us, a tiny restaurant was open in the town square of Peille, so we had a hardy meal of ravioli before descending back into Nice.

Today, Sunday, was a quiet day — we looked into a new flight back home (Kylie’s surgery was moved to the day we get home), arranged for our bikes to be shipped back to CA, and did some grocery shopping for the arrival of Don and De Ann, my brother and sister. They arrived in Italy a week ago with their partners (Joan and Steve respectively), and after site-seeing in and around Naples and Salerno, they will finally get to enjoy themselves… with us!!
